Then either drag one line (from its middle, not one of the end handles) so its end snaps to the end of the other line, or select both lines (hold down Ctrl while selecting them) and use the Algin Left and Align Bottom (or some other sensible combination Holding down Shift while drawing will make them snap to sensible angles, making it easy to draw a perfectly horizontal or vertical line.Īlso note that holding down Shift while resizing a line makes the line not change its angle relative to the page (try it and you'll get what I mean). You can then just draw two lines, one vertical and one horizontal. Top you will see a check box for Snap objects to other objects. If Word 2007, in the Drwaing Tools contextual tab (that appears when you insert a drawing object like a line), in the Arrange group, click the Align menu button and click Grid Settings. There is an easy way to do what you described in your last paragraph.įirst you need to make sure you have enabled snap to shape. Is there some simple way to get a simple L shaped line in Word? Lines in dependently while keeping them lined up at the 90-degree elbow point. The best I’ve been able to do is to manually create an L shape by dragging two straight line shapes into the positions I want, but it’s tedious to line them up exactly at the 90-degree elbow point. And the resulting L shape doesn’t seem stable-when I try to resize just one of the parts it reverts to the multi-angle shape To force a simple L shape, the end of one of the connect lines is ragged rather than a good crisp line with a clean rectangle shape.

And I can’t figure out how to get an elbow connector to become and remain a simple L shape. I tried using elbow connectors, but it seems they are really designed for more flexibility than I need / want. It would be great if I could just get the connector line part of the callout shape (the three yellow diamonds) and if I could lock I tried using a callout shape but that seems to require that I include a text box, which I don’t want.

Of either part of the L shaped line and I want the line thickness at 2 points. I don’t want arrows or odd angles or locking or anything else-I just want to be able to adjust the length I need simple right-angle, L shaped lines that I can use for callouts in the canvas. I’m working in Word 2010 in a drawing canvas.
